demanding compensation from Tichaona Chamunorwa’s family.
Chamunorwa (58) is in police custody after confessing to the murder.
The woman’s husband and family however, sought police intervention. The matter has been referred to Mahusekwa Police Station.
Beauty Mutasa – who was reportedly having an adulterous affair with Chamunorwa – was shot five times and died on the spot.
Her body is still at Chitungwiza Hospital mortuary where it was taken. Mr Joseph Marange, who is her husband’s uncle, yesterday confirmed that they had sought police intervention and burial arrangements were yet to be made.
He said the woman’s relatives arrived from Mutare last Friday.
“The matter is being handled by police in Mahusekwa. As a result, burial arrangements have not yet been finalised, as there are certain demands from the family that Chamunorwa’s relatives have failed to meet.
“They are meeting again tomorrow (today) to try and resolve the impasse between them, then we can talk of burial arrangements,” he said.
Mr Marange would not reveal Mutasa’s relatives’ demands but said they expected to bury her at the couple’s rural home in Goromonzi.
Mutasa’s body was brought to Marondera but could not be collected from the funeral parlour due to the impasse between her relatives and Chamunorwa’s family.
The funeral parlour returned the body to Chitungwiza Hospital. Mutasa was Chamunorwa’s employee for nearly 10 years.
The two were however, alleged to be involved in an adulterous affair and had a misunderstanding over financial issues and suspected infection with an unnamed disease.
Chamunorwa who ran various business enterprises allegedly picked Mutasa last Wednesday afternoon and drove to Muteke Farm (nearly 30 km away) along Longlands Road north of Marondera. The police said Chamunorwa parked the vehicle and shot the woman five times in the head and chest. Mutasa died on the spot.
Chamunorwa is expected to appear before the courts on September 5.
