THE Sport Institute Leaders of Zimbabwe (SLIZ) has joined the International Council for Coaching Excellence (ICCE), a leading global non-profit organisation whose mandate is to develop sport coaching in over 30 countries.
ICCE was established in September 1997 and thrives to be the leader in developing sport coaching globally and work towards enhancing quality coaching at every level of sport.
“Everyday around the world, tens of millions of athletes run, jump, throw, catch, swim and participate in other sporting activities. And every day around the world, millions of coaches help those athletes chase their dreams.
“The ICCE believes that international collaboration and exchange can accelerate positive change in the realm of coaching development and help these coaches give athletes around the world a chance to pursue excellence,” reads part of the ICCE mission statement.
Speaking on the sidelines of the recently ended SLIZ 5th summer camp in Nyanga, Russell Mhiribidi said his organisation was honoured to be part of the ICCE global family.
“We are thrilled to join the ICCE family and play our part in assisting local coaches across all sporting disciplines work hand in glove with one of the leading coaching organisation in the world.
“It’s was through vigorous lobbying, hard work and perseverance that we were finally accepted to join ICCE,” said Mhiribidi.
SLIZ prides itself as “game changers” in the country’s sports industry, coming up with topics that help local administrators keep up with the global sports management trends.
Some of the topics that were tackled at the Nyanga symposium included the role of sports managers in the digital era as well as the need for physical education teachers in primary and high schools to be well trained in first aid to prevent unnecessary loss of limp and life caused by injuries during training and sports tournaments.
Over 360 physical education teachers, school heads, provincial education directors, sports directors and representatives of school development committees (SDC) attended the workshop.
