Smallholder farmers to benefit from US$65 million horticulture initiative

STAKEHOLDERS have converged at a local hotel in Gweru for the launch of US$65 million Horticulture Enterprise Enhancement Project.

The HEEP project is co-financed by the Government, International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID), private sector and beneficiaries

The project goal is to increase incomes, food security and empowerment for Smallholder Farmers, engaged in profitable and sustainable horticulture value chains.

The project development objective is supporting increased and sustainable horticultural production and sales by smallholder farmers and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises engaged in horticulture value chains.

HEEP will take a two-pronged approach to geographic targeting based on a combination of poverty and nutritional status and potential for commercial horticultural development.

HEEP will be implemented in Matabeleland South, Manicaland, Masvingo and Midlands Province four provinces with 20 districts benefitting from the intervention.
