This article shall define artificial intelligence and then explore the multifaceted effects of AI on student education, highlighting its potential to revolutionise learning for generations to come and advising the users on the key considerations when using it.
Definition of AI
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is when machines are designed to think, learn and solve problems like humans. Imagine a robot or a computer programme that can teach in a classroom like a teacher, cooks food, answers calls at the reception, play chess, answers questions, or even drives a car.
Artificial Intelligence is a process of giving a machine brain that helps them understand and react to the world around them. In the context of education, AI refers to the implementation of computer systems and algorithms designed to simulate human intelligence and enhance the learning process.
This involves the development and application of technology-driven solutions that can automate educational tasks, personalise learning experiences, adapt to the individual needs of students and provide insights into the learning process.
AI in education aims to improve outcomes by making learning more efficient, accessible, and engaging, while also alleviating some of the administrative burdens on educators.
Key applications of AI in education include:
Personalised learning: AI systems analyse data from students’ interactions with digital learning materials to identify patterns in learning styles, strengths and weaknesses. This information is then used to tailor the content, pace and learning strategies to fit the individual needs of each student, making learning more effective and engaging.
