Mutare Bureau
THE blitz by police Manicaland targeting the smuggling of goods into the country through illegal entry points is yielding results.
Last week, three smugglers of second-hand clothes dumped their bales when they came across an anti-smuggling taskforce
Manicaland police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, confirmed the case. He said the three smugglers dumped their contraband and fled back into Mozambique.
“On July 11, 2025, around 7am, a border enforcement team comprising three ZRP Support Unit and two Zimbabwe National Army members was on patrol along an illegal entry point in Mutare when they intercepted three male adults carrying three bales of second-hand goods on their heads.
“Upon noticing the patrol team, the three male adults dropped their bales and ran back into Mozambique.
“The patrol team made an effort to arrest the suspect but to no avail. The bales were seized and handed to ZIMRA Mutare for further management, “ said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.
He said the police were working tirelessly to curb illegal activities along the border.
