SNARE TERROR ENDS: Villagers ‘take law into their own hands

Mkhululi Ncube

NYABANE VILLAGERS in Bulilima District have finally had enough of Martin Ndlovu, the man who turned their cattle into easy prey. Known for setting snare wires in the bush to trap livestock, Ndlovu would then disappear into the wilderness to feast, leaving behind only the bloody remains.

“I’ve never seen anything like it. He eats the cattle and leaves the rest,” said one furious farmer who wished to remain anonymous.

Ndlovu, who was previously arrested for cattle theft but later released, was caught this time in a dramatic citizen’s arrest led by the villagers themselves. Determined to protect their livelihoods, the community, after handing him over to authorities, says they want him gone for good.

“We cannot let him terrorise our families and farms anymore. This time we made sure he won’t escape,” another villager said.

The capture has sent shockwaves through Nyabane, with locals praising the bravery of those who confronted Ndlovu. “He thought he could keep living off our cattle. Not anymore,” one resident said.

Authorities have been alerted, but villagers insist they are done watching from the sidelines. For now, Martin Ndlovu is facing the consequences of turning the bush into his personal buffet, and Nyabane is breathing a little easier.
