SNOOKER players from different Mutare Pool League (MPL) clubs will cross swords of supremacy when the one-man Independence Pool Tournament gets underway tomorrow (Saturday) at Tagaz Pool Join, Marx Shopping Centre, in Palmerstone.
The event starts at 10am.
The relatively rewarding competition will see the overall winner walking away US$200 richer while the second placed player will receive US$150.
There is US$100 prize money for third place finish and a US$70 for the player who will attain fourth position.
A draw for the competition will be conducted on Friday (today) at 12pm and the registration fee for participants in US$30.
According to the rules and regulations of the competition, matches will be played in sequential order and the walk over rule shall apply in the same format.
Tournament host Albert ‘Tagaz’ Mataga said they are expecting highly competitive matches.
He urged participating players to be punctual and maintain a high level of discipline before, during and after the tournament.
“We are excited to be hosting the Independence Tournament at Tagaz Pool Joint. This is obviously going to be a highly competitive contest given that it had been long since we last had a one-man tournament in the league.
“It is our hope that the participating players will be punctual and will be able to maintain a high level of discipline before, during and after the competition,” said Mataga.
Meanwhile, MPL 2023 season moves on this weekend with a number of matches lined up at various venues across the city of Mutare.
After five rounds of league matches, new boys Shoverland, a formidable outfit in their own right, led by star player Believe Mutore, are at the helm of the log standings with a total of 15 points.
Rozvei Empire, Acid and Villa Spot are tied on 12 points in second position.
However, Rozvie Empire and Villa Spot both have a match in hand.
Five teams in the MPL — Galaxy, Winsor, Old Mutual, Mutare City and basement outfit Buffalo — are yet to win a single match since the season started.
