So this is democracy Rejoice?

Writing in the guest column of one of the private papers, the “democratic” Rejoice Ngwenya urges people to shun products of companies that advertise in the public media as a way of cowing it into accepting western political subversion. In other words, Rejoice’s call for advertisers to boycott the public media is meant engineer the collapse of one the institutions that have stood for the country’s independence and sovereignty in the face of western onslaught.

Ngwenya writes; “Pro-democracy civil society groups must expose Zanu-PF’s lies on “housing cooperatives” and insist on continuing to work in communities. They should take the fight of freeing the airwaves to Sadc, including boycotts of companies that advertise on Zanu-PF controlled media like ZBC, the Herald, the Chronicle and Star FM.’’
Really Rejoice?

Why advocate the boycott of products of companies advertising in the public media if it is not a bid to collapse the section. So this is democracy for you Ngwenya? What is the public media’s crime that warrants your campaign to deny them advertising revenue? The public media’s crime was standing with the people and their Government during western governments’ onslaught on the country. The public media must be silenced because it continues to expose western agendas in the country and Africa disguised as democracy.

For Ngwenya, the public media should have abdicated their duty and run with the West and the MDC in soiling the country and its leadership. It should have been quiet or toed the western media construction of Zimbabwe and its leadership. Because it has remained upright in defence of Zimbabwe’s sovereignty and liberation ethos, it has to be destroyed.

His crooked line of reasoning is that one can only be democratic if he takes positions with the west and western sponsored parties and organisations against his people.
Those who dare take another route should be destroyed, should be silenced. The voice of the people should be silenced so that the many millions that rely on the medium for information are starved and thus will not support Zanu-PF.

Sorry Ngwenya, Zanu-PF’s close relationship with the people is not founded in the paper, it is etched in the path the party has travelled since the liberation struggle to the economic empowerment drive. It was sealed at Nyadzonya, Chimoio, Chibondo and at Freedom Camp where party cadres died for the people.

As is oblivious of the country housing backlog,  Ngwenya even condemns housing co-operatives, the only channel that the poor people have access to housing. No democrat in his or her right mind call for an end to the only source of shelter to the thousands of home-seekers in the country. People have to continue being poor and lodgers.

Anything that improves the lives of the people should be destroyed because poverty is what pro-democrats like Ngwenya and the MDCs have relied on to ascend to power.
That MDC-led councils have dismally failed to provide housing to the people in the cities, most of whom remain as lodgers, is of no consequence to Ngwenya.

He knows his party of choice rode on the protest vote and fears that when people are getting empowered through these housing cooperatives will not vote for western puppet parties.

Even the African Union stands condemned in Ngwenya thinking simply because it has refused to dance to the tune of Britain and its allies on dealing with Zimbabwe. But what more can we expect from a man who is eager to tell the world that the late Rhodesian Prime Minister Ian Douglas Smith was his neighbour and that in 1979, his twin brother joined the Rhodesian military in national service to get an apprentice at the Rhodesian Company.

That he left the country fearing for his life with a guitar and did not join the war like others.
At independence, riding on President Robert Mugabe’s largesse and call reconciliation, Ngwenya the self exile was to come back to work for the Herald as a columnist. He has the audacity to call the man with whose sweat he was given the freedom to write and earn, a living a dictator.

He does not tell us of how he left the Zimpapers pages, could it be the reason behind his recent call to advertisers to shun the paper that natured him as he says. Probably the fact that he failed dismally to open a media company in the late 1900s could be the bitterness he carries for the public media.
