FOR the first time in their history, Herentals found themselves in second place on the Castle Lager Premiership table on Saturday.
The best of the chasing pack!
Take a breather and think about it and you will see that this is not your everyday feel-good story.
This is something special, very, very special because the Students are not the kind of team which are expected to be challenging for honours in the title race.
But, after a come-from-behind 2-1 win over CAPS United at Rufaro on Saturday, Herentals found themselves in Dreamland – the best of the rest in this marathon, which is being led by Scottland.
And, that’s not all.
They even provide the Golden Boot leader – 35-year-old Ralph Kawondera who, like good old wine, keeps getting better with age.
The utility player, who can also play as a centreback, scored his 10th goal of what has been a landmark season for him and his team.
Herentals have been mocked by some of their critics as a team which plays with one-man short because club owner, Innocent Benza, is usually fielded in the first half of their matches.
But, the same team, which those critics have been mocking as a side which play with a disadvantage, in their attack, have scored 24 goals.
That’s more goals than CAPS United (21), Ngezi Platinum Stars (23), MWOS (17) and Simba Bhora (19).
A team, whose critics claim play with one-man short, have scored seven more goals, so far this season, then Billy Veremu and his teammates at MWOS.
They have lost only ONCE in their last 13 league matches – and the defeat came at the hands of champions Scottland.
They have won seven and drawn five of their other games.
