FOUR Zimbabwean football administrators who are attending a football course  in crisis-ridden Nairobi in Kenya have assured the nation that they are safe but still in a state of shock. Insurgents attacked a busy shopping mall in Nairobi, Kenya and killed several people whom they held hostage from Sunday morning and the situation is reportedly still not stable. Kenyan security details seem to have gained ground over the group, which also includes a female.

Castle Lager Premier Soccer League board member competitions Tawengwa Hara, Joseph Mukoki the PSL’s development board member, information technology and marketing  manager Rhodwell Thabe and competitions manager Elisha Mandireva are in Kenya for a Supersport sponsored Sport and Event management course.

The course is also being attended by representatives from Nigeria, Zambia, Kenya and Tanzania with experts from the Wits University of South Africa in charge.

“It is indeed very scary and all of us are scared here but we are safe so far. This has never happened in our country or even Southern Africa and to hear live gun fire is not an idea of fun as we are used to a life of peace and fun back home,” said Hara who is also the secretary of Chicken Inn Football Club.

The course is being conducted at Strathmore University, a few kilometers from the Westgate shopping mall hit by the insurgents while their place of residence is about 16km away from the shopping centre.

“SuperSport wanted to evacuate us today (yesterday) but have since cancelled the plan,” said Hara.
The quartet flew out of the country on Sunday and are now expected back home on Saturday.
