Caps United star midfielder Charles Mukanhairi was yesterday summoned to the Harare Civil Court by his girlfriend who is claiming US$250 for the upkeep of their two-year-old child.
Thelma Batsiao told the court that the footballer was not taking care of their minor child.
“I want him to pay US$250 in maintenance for our child who is two-years-old because he is not doing anything to assist me in taking care of the child,” she said.
Batsiao said Mukanhairi was a soccer player at Caps United Football Club, where he earned between US$600 and US$700 per month.
“From the US$250, US$50 is for groceries, US$70 for clothes, US$30 for medication and US$50 for rentals,” she said.
Batsiao said she was a hair-dresser and realised US$5 per day which was not enough to take care of herself and the minor.
Mukanhairi offered to pay US$40 per month citing other responsibilities.
“I can pay US$40 per month since I am married to another wife who is pregnant,” he said. “Apart from that, I have an extended family as I am staying with my grandmother who depends on me for everything.”
Mukanhairi said that he earned US$300 per month and his club sometimes failed to pay him.
Magistrate Ms Gamuchirai Siwardi deferred the matter to today for judgement and ordered Batsiao to get a copy of Mukanhairi’s pay slip from Caps United.
