SEVERAL fighting regiments on board an armada of battleships that left the port in January this year en route to the promised land are left with a few more battles before they arrive at the promised land.
All the warriors on board these battleships have been subjected to the toughest torrent sea winds as well as waves among other challenges along the way, a number of times in their quest to be crowned the best teams in their respective pools.
During such skirmishes many have fallen by the wayside, for this reason are now watching from a distance as those with superior fighting power go head-on for the last time.
Those still standing can be seen by means of their regiment colours which are flying high on the flagpole as an announcement to those waiting on the harbour that they are still in it.
Reigning Bulawayo Social Soccer League champions Stars FC’s flag is still flying high while clearly visible.
Using the log standing as the barometer of measurement to judge the time they need to land, they are 180 minutes or just two games away from booking a place in ultimate battle which is the champions of champion cup final once they wrap this task at the hand.
In their last battle they threw Bullets FC into the ocean to win 5-3 away for home in a tightly contested match judging by the score line.
This win took their tally of points to 114 from a record of 233 goals scored while 58 goals were conceded during the 43 games played so far.
Man U, smelling blood have eased into second position two after drawing 1 all against 70 Combination while Mthala who has spent the better part of the journey in second position seem to be losing if during the final strength.
However, their 7-0 drubbing of Ndola keep their hopes alive. They have now collected 96 points from a similar number of games, scoring 154 times in the process winning 30 against 58 goals they have let in.
Mthala are three points away in third position with 93 points harvested after scoring of 124 goals against 46 conceded.
In pool B the flags of the log leaders Skippers on 107 points, Mayihlome (102), as well as Real Magwegwe (98) still fly close to each other as the battle in the final stretch intensify.
The two most outstanding units from each group will square up to prove who the two finest social soccer teams in 2019 are.
In the Skies League, Rolling Stars came out with their guns blazing to thrash Stewards Bank 5-1 in their backyard.
For picking three points they moved to within two points from log leaders Zimra who were inactive this past weekend.
Red Seal Rovers were the biggest winners in the league after posting a 7-2 win over Dreamland at home.
According to fixtures secretary Harry Peter, though the league had its own challenge it has been exciting to date.
“It’s been an exciting season so far though there is still room for improvement in all areas of the league from administration to the teams. We have had challenges here and there but overall we are happy with the way the league has gone, we expect the curtain to come down in five weeks,” said Peter.
