Social teams clash in knockout tourney

THERE will be social football action in a number of Bulawayo suburbs at the weekend. Andrea Banda, one of the tournament organisers, said the first knockout stages of the tournament would be played at some of the teams’ home grounds to ensure that fans get to watch the matches while the semi-finals of the tournament will be played on January 24.

“Teams will play the first knockout stages at various home grounds of the teams that are part of the tournament so that fans in various suburbs can enjoy football action,” said Banda.

He said the tournament was one of the events meant to prepare teams for the 2015 social league that is scheduled to start in March.

Banda said the winners of the tournament will walk away with prize money, a trophy and medals.

“The sponsors of the prizes are JC Suppliers and Intrun Sport.

The teams expected to participate in the tournament are Mthala, 70 Combination, Iminyela Timers, FC Pirates, West Comm Rovers, Pelandaba FC, Cream Tata, Makwee, Fireworks, Glencara, Old Timers, Rebels, Cowdray Park Masters and one guest team which will be chosen by the organisers.

Banda said the football fields that will be used for the knockout stages will be Cowdray Park, Glencara, Bango, Makokoba, Lobengula Rugby Field and Pumula North.
