A DzivarEsekwa man was arrested on Monday for allegedly raping his 14-year-old maid.
Edmore Mutero (31), a serving soldier, left his heavily pregnant wife in their bedroom to attend a funeral in the neighbourhood.
Police said he returned later in the early hours of the morning, headed for the spare bedroom where the 14-year-old maid was sleeping and sneaked into the maid’s blankets and raped her.
Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the arrest saying the girl was referred to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals for medical examination.
“Police arrested a Dzivaresekwa man in connection with raping his maid,” said Insp Chakanza.
“On February 27 at around 3am complainant and the accused person’s two children were asleep in a spare bedroom when the accused person entered and sneaked into their blankets.
“He covered complainant’s mouth with his hand and raped her once without protection.
“The complainant informed one of the neighbours at around 4pm leading to the arrest of the accused person,” said Insp Chakanza.
Edmore was detained at Dzivaresekwa Police Station and is expected to appear in court today.
