A SOLDIER has been arrested for allegedly demanding sex from a Good Samaritan who had offered him a place to put up for the night.
Caleb Ndlovu (25) appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Ms Tancy Dube facing a charge of indecent assault. He pleaded guilty and was fined $100
Passing sentence, Magistrate Dube chided Ndlovu for seeking to tarnish the image of the army.
“Just because you are a member of the army does not grant you a right to go around terrorising people. You are sentenced to pay a $100 fine, of which failure to pay will see you spending 60 days in prison.
“You are also sentenced to spend an additional 60 days in prison, which has been suspended for eight years on condition of good behaviour,” said Ms Dube.
Prosecuting, Mr Mufaro Mageza said Ndlovu was a friend to the complainant’s mother.
The complainant is 22 years old.
Mr Mageza said on Monday, Ndlovu asked to sleep at the complainant’s home saying it was late for him to travel back to his workplace and his request was granted.
“On November 7 this year at around 00.30AM, the accused person sneaked into the complainant’s room and asked to have sexual intercourse with her. She refused and then he started insulting her calling her a prostitute. He threatened her saying that nobody turns down his advances because he is a member of the Zimbabwe National Army,” said Mr Mageza.
He said Ndlovu stripped the complainant and assaulted her with fists before she escaped into a co-tenant’s room.
Ndlovu followed her and continued to assault her. — @andile_tshuma
