Looking at the unseen
JOHN 9:1-3: And as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind from his birth.
And His disciples asked Him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?
Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.
Some troubles we face are not meant to destroy us: they are for the glory of God. The disciples wondered whether the blindness of the man was caused by his sins or of his parents.
Jesus said neither the man nor his parents had sinned to cause the blindness, but that the condition was for the works of God to be manifested.
Jesus healed the man, and he glorified God, and became a defender of Jesus when He was accused of healing on the Sabbath.
In John 11:3-4, we read about Lazarus.
The Bible says: “Therefore, his sisters sent unto Him, saying, Lord, behold, He whom thou lovest is sick.”
When Jesus heard that, He said: “This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.”
When Lazarus was sick, Jesus did not go to heal him at once. On hearing that Lazarus was sick, Jesus said the sickness was not for the death of Lazarus, but was for God to be gloried by it.
He waited until he died.
When Jesus arrived four days later, Lazarus’ body was in advanced state of decomposition.
He told Martha to believe and see the glory of God.
At the grave, Jesus prayed and called Lazarus from the grave. Out came Lazarus. God was glorified.
God permits trouble to come our way to show forth His glory.
He allowed Daniel to be cast into the den of lions.
When He delivered Daniel, the king who had ordered him to be thrown into the den of lions gave glory to God.
It was God who brought his children through the Red Sea.
It was as if God had made a mistake to bring His children through that route. But God had a purpose to show His glory. Pharaoh’s army was drowned. Sometimes God wants you to see your problem devouring your other problem. The Red Sea which barred their way, drowned the army which was after their blood. God is a master strategist.
In Romans 8:28, the Bible says: “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
Nothing happens to a believer just to vex them.
Everything has a purpose to those who are called according to God’s purpose. All things, good or bad, are designed for a specific purpose for a believer.
A certain guy had a tyre puncture. He came out of his car and kicked the punctured tyre in frustration. He fixed it while one car that was behind him passed.
When he finished fixing the tyre, he got to an intersection to find that the car that had passed him while fixing the tyre had been involved in a collision.
The other vehicle involved had not given way. If his vehicle did not have the puncture, he would have been involved in the accident.
He thanked God for the tyre puncture.
I read that a passenger missed the recently ill-fated Air India plane by just a few minutes. A few minutes after she was denied a check-in, the plane crashed. Had she not been delayed somehow; she would have been part of those who perished.
I read a story about a shepherd who was seen carrying a lamb in his arms. He was asked what had happened to the lamb. He said the lamb had a broken leg.
“Did it fall over a cliff and broke its leg?”, the shepherd was asked.
“No”, he answered.
“Then what happened”
“I wanted to give it my attention, so I broke its leg, so it would appreciate me.”
It sounds crude. But God sometimes breaks us in order to mould us.
He permits misfortunes in order to give us attention.
The story of Job shows us how God can allow evil to happen to us for Him, in the end to show us His glory.
To the untutored believer or infidels, this sounds weird. But in all things, we should learn to give God the glory.
Paul went through many perils. He said none of those things moved him. Nothing can separate us from the love of Gid which in Christ Jesus. No future or present, depth or height, poverty or riches can separate a believer from his God.
Thank God for your troubles. They are for a reason.
Some things are to bring God the glory.
