A Masvingo man whose intention to marry a second wife was opposed by his wife, resulting in him assaulting her, was recently fatally struck with an axe by his son for his violent behaviour. Vengai Mutsauki (20) killed his father Mr Clephas Mutsauki (40) of Village 27, Charumbira communal lands, after he assaulted his mother Pauline Makosi at their family home. Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Chief Inspector Charity Mazula confirmed the incident.

On the fateful day, Chief Insp Mazula said Mr Mutsauki was at home with his wife when the couple started quarrelling over his plans to marry a second wife.

“Clephas started assaulting his wife, forcing Vengai to intervene to save his mother,” she said. “The now deceased went away and returned after a while.

“He tried to assault his wife again and Vengai picked up an axe and struck him once on the chin. Clephas was rushed to Masvingo General Hospital where he later died from the injury. A report was made to police leading to Vengai’s arrest.”
Chief Insp Mazula urged members of the public to resolve their disputes amicably.
