Moreblessing Ncube
A 27-YEAR-OLD Makokoba man turned on his parents, harassing them before swiping his father’s cellphone in a late-night drama.
Learnmore Masirivha appeared before Tredgold Magistrate Maxwell Ncube, who slapped him with a US$300 fine or three months in jail. Three months were suspended on condition of good behaviour, leaving him with an effective three-month stretch if he fails to pay.
Prosecutor Mehluli Ndlovu told the court that on July 22 at around 7 PM, Learnmore arrived at his father Kaitano Masirivha’s home with a friend in tow.
He immediately demanded US$10 from his mother. When she told him she didn’t have the cash, he flew into a rage.
Kaitano tried to cool things down by taking Learnmore’s friend outside for a chat, leaving the hot-headed son alone in the room.
When they returned, Kaitano’s Itel P40 phone was gone. A quick call to the missing handset was answered by none other than Learnmore himself.
The next morning, Learnmore’s friend returned Kaitano’s SIM card — but not the phone — saying he had been sent by Learnmore to drop it off. The handset has not been recovered.
