“As a young girl and when I was hungry, I could sing and people would give me money to buy food,” Rebecca recollected her experiences as a young girl that started work on a tobacco farm to support her siblings as an 11-year-old.
“I didn’t know that I could even sing, the people I was singing for could tell me that ‘you got the voice for music'” the Kora All Africa Music Award winner said.
It was until she moved from her home town of Lekazi, near Nelspruit, to Johannesburg at the age of 21 that she took up music on a professional level.
In her 26-year music career, Rebecca has released 32 albums with her latest one that went on the shelves in March.
On her show in Ndola, she said it was awesome to perform for over two hours but was generally happy that her cause was benefiting the underprivileged in Zambian society. Rebecca put up a two hours and 10 minutes non-stop performance starting at 21:00 hours with her backing Choir.
With her passionate choir, the combination lived up to the expected magic and her charismatic stage work charmed many who were overjoyed and were on their feet to sing along the South African as she churned out the beats.
Rebecca, whose music has had influence across the borders of South Africa, sang some on request from the gospel lovers even those she has done in Zulu.
She played music some of her various 32 albums which she has released during the 26 years in the industry.
Her audience at Mukuba Hotel cut across all ages during this fund-raising dinner dance concert that was organised by a non-governmental organisation My Home Town. – Zambia Daily Mail.
