AFTER helping Vestri end a 37-year wait to play in the Iceland top-flight league, Zimbabwe international Silas Songani is a man on a mission to help his side maintain their league status.
The former Harare City forward played a pivotal role in the qualification last season with a contribution of five goals and 11 assists.
Songani has already made five appearances for his club and scored once in the current campaign.
He even believes he can still play for the Warriors.
“It is the ultimate goal of every player to represent your country when the opportunity arises.
“It is still my dream that one day I will once again don the national team jersey and represent the Warriors,” said Songani.
“It is always good to play at the highest level in any country, especially here in Europe.
“My target this season is to hit the target more and to also assist my team to maintain its Premiership status,” said Songani.
After moving to Sönderjyske from Harare City, Songani is now closing on a decade in Norway and Icelandic football circles.
He still admits that being a foreigner in the European league is not an easy task.
“It is a good thing to play in a foreign land and league at the highest level but to be honest it is not an easy shot.
“When you are a foreigner you have to be thrice as good as the local players and this requires a lot of hard work.
“And, apart from the hard work you have to contend with the language barriers and here in Iceland the weather is just too much (too cold).
“And, to conquer all these you have to remain focused and give it your all otherwise you will not stay long,” said Songani.
