adminZIMBABWE International forward, Silas Songani, is dreaming of ending his career in one of Europe’s Big Five leagues.
Songani is set to start his second campaign in the Icelandic First Division side, VESTRI, when the league starts early next month.
They have just finished a three-week tour in Spain where they capped off their pre-season campaign by playing two friendly matches against Spanish sides.
The former FC Platinum forward scored nine times and provided three assists last season to announce his arrival in this league.
Songani said he was keen to double his last season’s tally in this forthcoming campaign.
“Our pre-season campaign was a bit long and I hope everyone will be fit when we start playing.
“I’m challenging myself to improve my tally because last season it was a bit difficult for me because I was still trying to cope with the team’s style of play.
“But, I believe I’m now in a better space to help my team more in achieving their objectives,” said Songani.
He conceded that Icelandic football is fast, aggressive and it was a struggle for him to adapt with ease. “It has not been a soft landing for me at this club because, at first, everything was moving too quickly for me and players are very hard on each other.
“I spent much time trying to understand a lot of things and I believe all these challenges have now made me a player to do better in this campaign. “I’m someone who believes in hard work and coming from where I’m coming from, it’s a must for me to improvise in any difficult situation because there’s no turning back,” he said.
There were rumours that Songani had returned to Mandava earlier this year as he was training with the champions during their pre-season preparations in Bulawayo.
He hailed FC Platinum coach, Norman Mapeza, for accepting his request to join their camp.
“I had no intentions to rejoin FC Platinum, I wanted to stay fit and I asked coach Mapeza to allow me to join their camp during the pre-season. “I believe it has given me the edge to be just a step ahead and I’m grateful to him for accepting my wish.
“I’m eyeing to end my career elsewhere here in Europe, especially in one of the best five leagues, that’s my target and it means I have to do more for that to happen.”
