A MAN from Highfield suburb in Harare has been granted a protection order against two men from his neighbourhood who assaulted him after he won a high-stakes snooker match.
Mr Antony Katamho from Machipisa told Harare Civil Court magistrate Ms Johanna Mukwesha that he was assaulted by Kudakwashe Ramowa and Tatenda Moyo at a well-known entertainment spot where locals frequently gather for social games.
“The altercation began after I won the final round of the game and demanded my winnings,” Mr Katamho said.
“These two men refused to honour the bet, accusing me of using underhanded tactics.”
He said they argued before the situation became hostile, drawing the attention of other bar patrons.
Mr Katamho said that before anyone could intervene, Ramowa and Moyo allegedly ganged up and started hitting him with pool cues and punching him, resulting in him sustaining visible injuries on his face and body.
He said bar staff and concerned customers eventually came to his rescue and he was rushed to a nearby clinic for medical attention while Ramowa and Moyo fled the scene.
The duo was later apprehended by the police following a formal complaint lodged by the victim.
Ramowa and Moyo admitted to assaulting Katambo and pleaded with the court for forgiveness.
A tearful Ramowa said he assaulted Mr Katambo due to frustration, pride, and peer pressure.
“We were just playing for fun and a little money. I didn’t expect things to go this far, and I just want justice to be served,” Ramowa said.
“We were drunk, angry, and ashamed after the loss and we take full responsibility for what we did, but we are asking for help, not just punishment.
“We want to change, we want rehabilitation,” Moyo said.
Ms Mukwesha urged the duo to stop engaging in betting under the influence of alcohol to help with emotional control.
