THE family of veteran actress, Rhoda Muchabaiwa, known as Mai Sorobhi in the popular ‘90s drama series Paraffin, has appealed to her fans for help to raise funds to settle outstanding medical bills.
H-Metro has established that the medical the bills for the late actress amount to $37 000.
“These are bills for the time she spent at Sally Mugabe Hospital and the few scans she underwent.
“It’s sad we lost our icon and we hope to sit down as a family and see how we can raise the amount. “Well-wishers can also lend a helping hand,” said Mai Sorobhi’s son, Stephen Mthembe.
He said they need to pay the money early so that Nyaradzo takes over handling of the body.
Mai Sorobhi died from a stroke on Monday morning at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital.
She was 79.
The veteran actress is survived by seven children, and several grandchildren, including stand-up comedian, Bhutisi.
Bhutisi described Mai Sorobhi as a fighter.
“Gogo has left us and we are in pain.
“We had hoped she would be better after her stroke a few weeks ago.
“The initial stroke, from five years ago, partially paralysed her left side, nguva yaMwari yanga yakwana,” said Bhutisi.
Mai Sorobhi shot to prominence through her role in the ‘90s drama series as Phillip “Paraffin” Mushangwe’s wife.
She started acting during her days at Mutambara Primary and Secondary schools in Mutare.
Mourners are gathered at her Kuwadzana Extension home and funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
