South African government on high alert after intelligence confirms military coup plot

The South African government has been put on high alert after intelligence suggested a potential threat of an attempt to overthrow the government.

The Minister in the Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, revealed this on Tuesday in Parliament, stating that the security cluster, comprising all relevant safety structures, is actively monitoring the situation and has implemented preventative measures.

“We’ve identified a potential risk of a coup d’état,” Ntshavheni said after presenting her department’s budget vote in Parliament.

“There are plans and systems in place to counter this and keep South Africans safe.”

She assured Members of Parliament and the public that the country’s security is not at risk, emphasising the government’s commitment to stability despite the current volatile political climate.

The announcement comes amid ongoing investigations and escalating political tensions in the country.

Ntshavheni’s department has taken steps to mitigate the potential threat, and the government is working to ensure the safety and security of its citizens.

The potential coup threat has raised concerns about the stability of the government and the country’s democratic institutions.

However, Ntshavheni’s assurance that the situation is under control has provided some relief.

The government has urged citizens to remain calm and to report any suspicious activity to the authorities.

The situation is being closely monitored, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

In the meantime, Ntshavheni said the government is working to strengthen its security measures and to prevent any potential threats to the country’s stability.
