South Africa’s Gauteng High Court in Pretoria has halted the burial of former President Edgar Lungu in Johannesburg today.
This is pending the main determination of whether Lungu will be repatriated to Zambia or not.
The Zambian Government, this morning, filed a lawsuit against the family of the late former Zambian President seeking to stop his burial in South Africa today.
Several of his family members, alongside the funeral service company holding his remains, were named in the lawsuit filed by Zambia’s Attorney General, Mulilo Kabesha.
Kabesha says Lungu should be buried in Zambia with full military honours, in line with Zambian law and traditions.
He argues that state funerals are national events governed by strict protocols and the public must take priority over personal wishes. – SABC News/Online Reporter
