Southgate ushering in the new blood at England

The England national team served us with a blistering start to their 2022 World Cup campaign, beating Iran, a relatively formidable side 6-2. This was not any ordinary match, as much as the neutrals may want to look at it as so.

For a team that came to the competition with a very poor run, the Three Lions had been tipped to struggle. So far, they have not.

The big win in their opening game was just a marker of a positive start but the plot is definitely bigger. Gareth Southgate is starting the process of rebuilding the Three Lions and having a good start to the World Cup is just a part of the initial steps. Southgate has not won any silverware with the team so far but we can’t say he hasn’t come close.

In the last major tournament, the 2020 Euro, he got the team to the final only to fall on post match penalties to Italy. The big win however up to this point has been the ability to transition the negativity from the fans into solid support for the team. His quiet, thoughtful leadership style has won a lot of hearts and things are much calmer.

Southgate has been left without an option but to start the process of building the next generation of England stars and thankfully, clubs are doing well in supplying those players. In the Iran game, England’s opener, Jude Bellingham scored his first England goal and Bukayo Saka scored a brace, also his first goals in a FIFA World Cup.

Phil Foden is another top star in this team. He did not score in the opening game but a goal for the Manchester City forward is among the top predictions any gamer can have as England continue to enjoy good predictions in the latest football betting tips found on SportyTrader.

A lot has been said about Southgate being a great leader but not a winner. Well, that may pass, and it is a positive thing, looking at the average age of the top performers in the England team. While the manager has players like Harry Maguire, Jordan Henderson, Declan Rice and Harry Kane to lead the players on the pitch, the youngsters need moulding too and this is where the overall leader comes in.

Southgate’s profile fits there well and he may not be able to win much, but from the making of his team, there is no doubt he is mentoring a great side for the future. There has definitely been progress in the team, right from the lows of the early exit in the 2016 Euro, to reaching the semi final stage in the last World Cup and the final of Euro 2020.

Southgate has clearly learnt from the failings of Roy Hodgson on the pitch and Sam Allardyce off the pitch, and these have made him a great leader. Just what England and the youthful players need as they progress to the next level. The next generation of the England team is being moulded right in our faces and it will comprise the Sakas, Bellinghams, Fodens, Aaron Ramsdales and co.
