A SPAR cook offered $40 000 for his three minors yesterday claiming he had another family to take care of.
Belzoni Chounda was taken to court by his ex-wife, Patricia Mubatapamimba, who was demanding $150 000 in child support.
Belzoni told the court he doesn’t earn any US dollar allowances and has since remarried, and also has a child to take care of.
“I can’t afford the claim as it’s more than my salary.
“I earn $144 000 with no allowances on the side.
“I’m just a cook and don’t have any other side hustles.
“I depend on my salary and $40 000 is my best offer,” he said.
Patricia rejected the offer saying it wasn’t enough since their other children were of school-going age.
“It’s not enough, he should increase or at least up to $100 000,” she said.
Magistrate Sharon Mashavira asked her where the $100 000 will come from when he clearly stated that he earned $144 000?
Patricia responded:
“He is not being truthful, as he earns a lot of money in US dollars and if possible, I would like the court to give me some time so that I go and collect his pay slip on my own,” she said.
Magistrate Mashavira postponed the matter to Thursday and ordered Patricia to bring the pay slip as evidence.
