Spar loses US$36 000

National police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi yesterday confirmed the incident.

He said the shop was closed in the afternoon on Sunday.
“On Monday at around 4.41am, one of the senior employees went to the supermarket and unlocked the door to the entrance.

“He then observed that the door that leads to the main safe was wide open,” Chief Supt Nyathi said.
He said the employee discovered that a screen at the entrance had also been opened and it was not clear whether it was locked or not.

A report was made to the police and they discovered that the roof had been tampered with.
“It was discovered that the cash and the cellphones were missing. We are still carrying out investigations on the case,” Chief Supt Nyathi said.

Chief Supt Nyathi urged business operators to ensure that they bank their money regularly with registered financial institutions.
Chief Supt Nyathi said that it was important that they put adequate security measures at their premises to avoid such incidents.
