Zimbabwe and Zambia will co-host the event set for August.
“The UNWTO expressed satisfaction with the state of preparedness and excellent collaboration of the two countries to host the historic event,” said Eng Mzembi.
He added that the hosting of the event was the country’s biggest diplomatic achievement since the formation of the inclusive Government.
There had been unconfirmed reports that there were countries who were preparing to host the event should the two countries fail to meet the requirements.
Only last week it was reported that Zimbabwe and Zambia would offer free visas to delegates and visitors to the six-day summit.
The two countries said they would also co-host the meeting as a “truly African event”, meant to showcase the best the continent could offer.
Briefing the African Union Commission’s Deputy Chairman, Erasmus Mwencha, at the AU’s head office in Addis Ababa, a joint delegation from the two countries said they had made a lot of progress towards the successful hosting of the August 24-29 event.
