GUNNERS simply did what they were supposed to do, win their match, while their rivals came short as the former Premiership side bounced back to take control in the World Navi Northern Region Division One soccer league.
Gunners beat Royal Classic 2-1 with McDonald Motsi and Brezhnev Muzuva on target and these were their first full set of points having gone for two games without a win.
The log leaders’ coach Kudakwashe Masaraure said the win was a relief for his side after two consecutive draws before Saturday’s game.
“It’s a morale booster, after drawing our last two games we were trying to get the winning formula back and this week’s results will help us,” said Masaraure.
“The guys are now confident, they were down because of the previous results.
“I think our prayers are helping us, when we drew we dropped four points and we should have been toppled from the top but the other teams also dropped points.
“It’s a bonus to us and I think God is on our side.
“Some teams look at how we are playing but we are just concentrating on our games. We will try by all means not to lose points and when we take Chegutu at home it will be a must win game.”
Masaraure believes their leader Prophet Walter Magaya is helping their cause with his prayers for the team to do well.
Magaya owns the team and has said he wants to create the biggest football club, based on religious values and supported by religious men and women, in this country.
A draw between second-placed Flame Lilly and Bindura United meant the log leaders stretched their lead to three points.
The two teams have drawn their two league matches this season.
