CAPS United president Farai Jere says the coming in of Lesotho financial institution Green Dollar Coin Bank to partner the Premiership giants with a hefty US$4.3m package was a huge endorsement of the former champions.
The deal between CAPS United and the Lesotho-based bank is set to be operational starting next January and could set the tone for the Green Machine’s 2026 season.
Under the deal Makepekepe will be earning US$1.2m every season to cover player signing-on fees, salaries and other operational costs.
Makepekepe will also take delivery of two state-of-the-art buses, with the first expected in the next three months.
“It’s an endorsement. Let me give a quote by one of the renowned world billionaire Bill Gates, when he said, “Show me an organisation with integrity and I will show you undisputed success.”
“So, what you are seeing here is the success of the integrity with which the club is being running. It’s a reflection of how we are running this club. It attracts the sponsors and I can tell you this is the beginning.
“It’s an endorsement that we are doing our things very well. So, we are very excited, we are very happy about this sponsorship. And obviously in football these days it’s the money that stocks,” said Jere.
It is hoped that the sponsorship windfall could also spur on CAPS United in their desperate bid to shake off the threat of relegation that has been stalking them for much of this season.
The deal also comes as a morale booster at a time when Makepekepe are preparing for a massive Harare derby showdown against bitter city rivals Dynamos at Rufaro tomorrow.
Dubbed the PSL Survival derby, the encounter could define the run-in for either side and comes at a time when CAPS United have a three-point advantage over Dynamos on the log standings.
As part of long-term plans, Makepekepe have also indicated they are engaging the City of Harare for the lease of Gwanzura.
“Yes, it’s something which is at an advanced stage. And we should be signing the agreements any time soon. We approached the city council to say we can renovate it to the standards which are required.
“Putting in the bucket seats and making it the CAPS United home of football. If you look even in the yesteryear, we have never succeeded enough in sharing the same home ground with Dynamos.
“It’s a tradition.
“So, we need to establish our own home. When they come to us, it will be our home ground,” said Jere.
