VETERAN sports journalist, Brian Nkiwane, has been appointed Chegutu Pirates chairman.
The ZIFA Northern Region One side is aiming for promotion to the top-flight league and believes the young executive has what it takes to steer the team towards that achievement.
Nkiwane told H-Metro he is honoured to lead Chegutu Pirates,
“I feel honoured to lead the fourth most followed team in Zimbabwean football,” said Nkiwane.
Nkiwane, who has been a stakeholder of the beautiful game in different positions, said he is set to put the experience he has gained over the years into good use.
“I have been a Sports Editor of repute, during my time in the newsroom. I learned a lot in terms of football management, including football coaching. I was also part of the first troop of coaches to do Level 2 Plus in Zimbabwe.
“So, football has been at my fingertips all this time. I have also played football to certain levels and I have coached at tertiary level as well,” he said.
“Our vision is to see football in Chegutu developing. The ultimate goal is to see Chegutu Pirates in the Premier Soccer League. With the calibre of people we are working with, I see no reason we should fall short.
“We have a youthful executive that has come in to lead, so fans must expect improvement in terms of professionalism.
Nkiwane said moving back to Pfupajena is one of their top priorities.
“We are working hard to have our home games played at Pfupajena Stadium, which failed the ZIFA test in the last half of the season.
“Now we have put more work into the stadium and we are optimistic that ZIFA will give it the nod.
“This will enable our home fans to watch their team closer to them, as in the last half of last season, we were using Chakari Stadium, which is 70km away from home.”
