Zimbabwe junior athletics team will be hoping for a change of fortunes at the 12th Africa Junior Athletics Championship in Ethiopia. Twelve talented local athletes are competing against their age group fellows from across the continent from March 5-8 in Addis Ababa.

The country is seeking to improve on the sole bronze medal won at the last meeting in Mauritius two years ago.

Zimbabwe endured a tough outing at the previous edition of this biennial competition, only bringing home a bronze medal won in high jump by national record holder Takudzwa Muchichwa (2,12 metres). – Sunday Mail

Mhene, Bako shine in SA

TWO of Zimbabwe’s most promising motocross riders, Kuda Mhene (Jnr) and Emmanuel Bako,ade their presence felt during the opening round of the 2015 Monster Energy South African National Championships at Harrismith in Free State last Saturday, where they finished in the top 10 in the respective classes they rode in.

Kuda Mhene (Jnr) took part in the 65cc Class while Bako (8) represented Zimbabwe in the 50cc Class and they were both expected to be swept away by their opponents from South Africa at race meeting at Harrismith.

But Mhene (Jnr) and Bako showed no ghost of inferiority complex as they held their own in this event where they managed to finish among the top 10 riders in their respective classes — a phenomenal achievement by these talented young

A Grade Six pupil at Lomagundi College, Mhene (Jnr) enjoyed a good day in the 65cc Class where he rode brilliantly to finish sixth overall out of a strong field of 24 riders.

Like Mhene (Jnr), Bako was riding on the Harrismith track for the first time and he at times mistimed his jumps but managed to finish fifth overall. – The Herald.
