BULAWAYO Christian League table toppers Saint Columbus Parish continued with their ruthlessness after beating Famona Tigers 4-2 in an encounter that was played at St Columbus High School grounds on Sunday afternoon.
St Columbus striker Witness Moyo scored two goals with team mates, Nathan Muzenda and Tapuwa Mpofu scoring one goal each. Famona Tigers got their two goals from Ronald Ndlovu and Fidelis Mnkandla.

With the win, St Columbus stretched their lead on the standings and are now leading second placed Entumbane based Fog Stars by two points.

In other games House of Prayer had Mike Munamba who scored two goals to thank for their 2-1 win over Eagle Life Assembly, while hosts Mpopoma Nazerene shared spoils with Fog Stars at Mpopoma during a weekend in which Word of Life Entumbane humiliated St Peter 6-0.

BCL’s fixtures secretary Fungai Mundofa expressed satisfaction with the level of competition so far.

“As an association we feel that the level of competition in this season’s league is very intense and we are looking forward to more interesting games to come in the second half of the league,” he said.

Mundofa applauded the teams and churches saying they had done a commendable job for their league over the years, and it was through their efforts that saw the league attract more teams this season.

“We would like to thank all the teams and churches for their commitment and for taking us this far. We are looking forward to more churches joining in the league the next coming season,” he said.

BCL now has 12 teams, two more than last year’s number and all the teams come from different churches in the city of Bulawayo.
