St George’s braces for bigger U-20 tournament

ST George’s College will host an expanded edition of the Hammer and Tongues-sponsored Under-20 Soccer Tournament tomorrow and Saturday, with 22 schools set to take part.

The annual schools competition has grown again this year, with organisers increasing the number of participating teams from 20 while also welcoming back regular visitors, St Ignatius College Jesuit School from Zambia.

The tournament will run in a round-robin format across two days and brings together some of the country’s top school football sides, together with regional competition.

Last year’s tournament was won by Prince Edward after they edged St John’s College 1-0 in the final.

This year’s line-up includes familiar schools such as Prince Edward, Kutama Mission, Falcon College, Peterhouse Boys, Christian Brothers College and St John’s College, setting up another competitive contest.

Pool A: St George’s College A, St George’s College B, St John’s College, Peterhouse Boys, Christian Brothers College, Lomagundi College.

Pool B: Kutama Mission, Harare International School, Falcon College, Marondera High, Petra College.

Pool C: St Peters Kubatana, Prince Edward, Gateway High, Loreto High, Serima High.

Pool D: St Ignatius Zambia, St Ignatius Zimbabwe, Westridge High, Watershed College, Gokomere Mission.
