A 20-year-old man from Bulawayo’s Entumbane suburb is battling for life at Mpilo Central Hospital after he was stabbed during a street bash on New Year’s Eve.
Bruce Ndlovu sustained serious back injuries and a damaged lung when Unity Dube, whose age could not be ascertained but is from the same suburb, allegedly stabbed him with a knife following a misunderstanding.
A close friend who witnessed the incident and preferred anonymity said Ndlovu was attacked by “gangsters” in the neighbourhood who had a grudge against him.
“Bruce was drunk during the night of the stabbing and had a misunderstanding with Unity and his friends,” said the witness.
“The group started assaulting Bruce and dragged him along the road towards Manyewu Primary School where Unity drew his knife and stabbed him twice on his back.”
The witness said Unity and his friends fled from the scene and left Bruce lying unconscious.
Ndlovu’s father confirmed the incident but could not give details. “I cannot comment on the issue since it’s being handled by the police.”
The news crew was barred from visiting Ndlovu at hospital.
“This is our private life. You should not interfere.
“Get out of here and don’t you dare run the story,” Ndlovu’s sister charged.
Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Mandlenkosi Moyo said Dube was on the run.
“We have launched a manhunt for Unity Dube who is still on the run after stabbing Bruce Ndlovu, 20, of Entumbane suburb,” he said.
