A SOUTH African-based truck driver who on two occasions violently resisted arrest and escaped after he had stabbed his brother with an okapi knife was slapped with a four-month jail term.
Agrippa Goneso (26) had been initially slapped with an eight-month jail term, but four months were suspended on condition that he does not commit a similar offence in the next five years.
Goneso will serve an effective four months imprisonment.
Mutare magistrate, Mr Langton Mukwengi presided over the matter with Mr Brian Goto representing the State.
It was the State’s case that on December 2, 2015, Goneso hit his brother, Sydney Goneso (24) with a beer bottle once on the forehead before stabbing him once on the left side of the forehead.
Said Mr Goto: “Sometime in August 2015, Sydney and Agrippa had a family dispute after Agrippa faked his own death while in South Africa. Agrippa wanted to gain sympathy from family members who had disowned him over his wayward behaviour.
“When he came to Zimbabwe on December 2, Agrippa arrived at Sydney’s Hob house residence and was welcomed. He refused to take a seat, but started assaulting his brother with a bottle and an okapi knife”.
Agrippa went away leaving Sydney bleeding.
Goneso violently resisted arrest on two occasions and managed to escape.
However, luck was not on his side on December 5, when he was arrested at Mutare Provincial Hospital while seeking medical attention for injuries he had sustained from his second escape in the Mazoe area.
Sydney sustained two lacerations on the forehead.
