Mr Kachambwa sentenced him to six years in jail, but set aside two years on condition of good behaviour.
In passing sentence, Mr Kachambwa said Hakata was fully aware that a knife was a dangerous weapon that could cause death.
“Nevertheless, he intended to inflict injury on the complainant. He cannot hide behind drunkenness and a non-custodial sentence in the circumstances will not meet justice on the offence,” said Mr Kachambwa.
Prosecutor Ms Purity Chikangaise proved that Hakata and Simbi Simbi (35) were neighbours and friends.
On August 1 and at around 6pm, Simbi was on his way from Budiriro 4 shopping centre and passed by Hakata’s place.
Simbi saw Hakata fighting his wife and restrained them.
Hakata pretended the altercation was over and Simbi left for his place. Hakata followed in hot pursuit and stabbed Simbi three times on the left side of the chest.
Simbi ran to one Stanley Lawrence’s house with Hakata still chasing him where he fell at the door and became unconscious.
