Stakeholders participate in Zimbabwe Media Commission Workshop on Freedom of Information Act

This morning, stakeholders gathered at a local hotel in Bulawayo for a training workshop organized by the Zimbabwe Media Commission focused on the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). The event aimed to educate participants about the provisions of the FOIA, which was enacted to promote transparency and accountability in government.

The workshop is set to feature discussions on the importance of access to information as a fundamental right and its role in enhancing democratic governance. Media professionals, civil society representatives, and government officials will attend the session to understand better how the FOIA can be leveraged to improve public access to information.

The Freedom of Information Act is a significant step towards fostering a culture of openness in Zimbabwe, allowing citizens to request information from public authorities. This training is part of a broader initiative to empower stakeholders to utilize the Act in their advocacy and reporting efforts effectively. As the country continues to navigate challenges related to information access, workshops like this are crucial for building capacity and promoting informed citizen engagement.
