Stanbic Bank has distributed US$200 000 worth of personal protective equipment (PPEs) to six major referral health institutions around the country over the past week.
The equipment includes five ventilators, 32 500 protective suits, masks, face shields and goggles, 2 400 PCR tests, 3 000 sanitisers for frontline workers.
St Annes’ Hospital, Wilkins Infectious Diseases Hospitals, Gweru Provincial Hospital, Thorngrove
Hospital, Masvingo General Hospital and Mutare Infectious Disease Hospital were some of the beneficiaries.
The bank is also drilling boreholes in Cowdray Park in Bulawayo and Glen Norah C in Harare.
Stanbic Bank non-executive director Nellie Tiyago said the institution is committed to play a pivotal role in the fight against Covid-19 and recognises the importance of healthcare workers.
“There are many frontline workers and we appreciate their efforts.
“Stanbic Bank is here to support the medical frontliners who can in no way escape or avoid this war as they are the backbone of the survival of our people, even when we are not in times of crisis,” said Ms Tiyago.
In Gweru, Minister of State for Midlands Provincial Affairs Larry Mavima received the goods on behalf of Gweru Hospital, while the Mayors of Bulawayo and Mutare Solomon Mguni and Blessing Tandi, respectively, received the equipment on behalf of health institutions in their jurisdictions.
The bank has also made available a US$2,8 million credit and allocated foreign currency to its clients in the medical industry to acquire the much-needed healthcare items to help fight the pandemic.
