STANBIC Bank Zimbabwe has donated two haemodialysis machines worth US$50 000 to Marondera Hospital.

The advanced medical equipment is set to assist in blood purification for patients suffering from renal problems and is to be used to ease the burden faced by renal patients within Mashonaland East province.

The handover ceremony was attended by local government officials and hospital staff.

Solomon Nyanhongo, Stanbic Bank chief executive, said they were proud to play a part in relieving the burden which is carried by patients and their families.

Through its needs assessment, the bank chose to contribute through the life-changing equipment.

He said the decision to donate haemodialysis machines came about after a visit by the bank’s officials in September last year to assess the needs of the hospital.

“Our needs assessment team, coupled with the passion to serve patients shown by the Marondera Hospital team during our visit in September last year, left a lasting impression on us.

“There was a consensus that we needed to contribute through life-changing equipment and this saw us settling on buying the haemodialysis machines”, said Nyanhongo

Mashonaland East acting provincial medical director, Dr Michelle Gadzayi, hailed Stanbic Bank for its gesture, saying it would improve the quality of life for renal patients in the province.

She said the hospital had two functional renal machines and the additional two machines will enable them to attend to more patients, even from other provinces.

She said the hospital was attending to 14 patients per week, with each receiving treatment twice a week.

The two additional machines mean 10 more patients can now be added to the roaster.
