Stanbic manager cleared

A Stanbic Bank manager has successfully applied for refusal of further remand on fraud charges involving US$200 000 at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts.
Magistrate Mr Don Ndirowei removed Xavier Chikoko from remand saying there was no reasonable suspicion that he committed the crime.
His co-accused and Gunners Football Club boss Cuthbert Chitima (43) was cleared of the same charges last month. Through his lawyer, Mr Maxwell Mavhunga of Mavhunga and Sigauke Legal Practitioners, Chikoko had petitioned the court to remove him from remand. Mr Mavhunga’s application was predicated on the basis that the State had failed to show tangible evidence linking Chikoko to the crime.
Prosecutor Ms Memory Chidavaenzi opposed the application saying Chikoko gave permission for the money to be transferred from Stanbic to a Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe employee’s account. – CR.
