adminAn armed robber who hijacked a Mazda 626 and masqueraded as a National Incomes and Pricing Commission official has been jailed for five years.
Mike Nhira Matema (32) was jointly charged with John John (35) and Chamunorwa Marisa (42), but the other two were cleared of armed robbery and illegal possession of firearm charges by regional magistrate Mr Peter Kumbawa.
The State proved that on June 18, 2008 near Zengeza 3 High School in Chitungwiza, Matema – who was driving a Toyota Hi-Rider without number plates – trailed a Mazda 626 from the city centre.
He blocked the Mazda near Zengeza High and produced a pistol, threatening to shoot the driver.
Matema took control of the vehicle and dumped the complainant in Dema before driving to Maoresa Business Centre in Murehwa where he masqueraded as an NIPC official. – CR.
