Lovemore Dube in Mahe, Seychelles
BRIGHTON Dube the How Mine left-back received a scare on Thursday morning when he was almost barred from boarding an Air Zimbabwe plane at Harare International Airport because his initials match those of a wanted fraudster Blessing Dube.As if that was not enough he encountered the same problem at OR Tambo International in South Africa but was later released to proceed to the Seychelles for this afternoon’s Orange Caf Confederation second leg, first round clash between How Mine and St Michel at Stade Linite.
Dube faced the prospect of remaining in Seychelles tomorrow when the Zimbabweans return to Harare because his return ticket had not been accepted as records showed he had not left Harare. According to How Mine chairman Mlondolozi Nkomo, Dube had not been captured on booking systems for air travel as having left Harare on Thursday.
Nkomo on Thursday advised the team’s sponsors on tour, Mbada Diamonds to sort out the issue.
He said: “He has been sorted out. Our sponsors Mbada Diamonds have moved in quickly to ensure that his ticket is sorted out. He would have encountered problems here if we had not moved in quickly to have his ticket issue sorted out.”
Nkomo said authorities in Harare had noted that Dube shared initials with a wanted criminal. A thorough check that entailed calling Interpol in Johannesburg saw Dube being given an all clear to travel as even his looks did not resemble those of the wanted man. Coach Philani Ncube said his player had remained unfazed by the drama around his trip.
“I have put him in the starting line up. He has taken that lightly and looks very determined to deliver on the field. He is a true professional and he looks raring to go and I am expecting the best from him. It is unfortunate that he faced that humiliation in Harare and Johannesburg.”
Dube has been thrown in the left back with Morris Kadzola on the right for this afternoon’s clash in which How Mine go into with a 5-1 lead from last weekend’s first leg played at Barbourfields
