IT was a night to remember as gospel sensation, Dorcas Moyo, proved why she is now being hailed as the queen of Zimbabwean gospel music.
Her much-anticipated 10th album launch, held at the Mutare Showgrounds last Saturday, turned into a musical spectacle, thanks to a line-up of star-studded performers who brought their A-game to support one of their own.
The new album, “Mugeri Tsvatu”, continues Moyo’s unique tradition of using hair symbolism to tell deeper spiritual and personal stories — following on from her previous albums, “Bvudzi Rangu Ramera”, “Mhanza Haisekwi” and “Mvere Dzabvepi”.

The latest offering, packed with 11 soul-stirring tracks, was officially unveiled before an enthusiastic crowd that filled the venue with ululation, whistling, dance, and praise.
Moyo’s musical journey has been one of trials and triumph.
After over 20 years of perseverance through sorrow, sadness and personal battles, she has risen to become a force to reckon with in Zimbabwean gospel. Her lyrical ingenuity, unmatched consistency, and emotional depth have set her apart.
The album launch was, not only a celebration of music, but a testament to her resilience and growth.
Backed by a line-up of some of the biggest names in the Zimbabwean music scene, the event had all the ingredients of a blockbuster concert.
Sungura legend, Alick Macheso shared the stage with Moyo for a moving performance of “Mhanza Haisekwi”, to the delight of fans.
He then left for another show in Harare, but not before giving the audience a taste of his unmatched stage presence.
Hot on his heels were performances by Sulumani Chimbetu and Leonard Zhakata — both seasoned artistes, who gave sterling performances that had the crowd on their feet.
Their sets, full of energy and emotion, showcased the strong bond and mutual respect among Zimbabwean musicians across genres.
Also gracing the stage were gospel powerhouses like Fungisai Zvakavapano-Mashavave, Pastor Tinashe Murigo, “Ashton” Nyahora, Cloris Machiwaire, Afri Praise, and Carol Chidzikwe — all of whom added their unique flavours to the event.
Mathias Mhere and King David also gave spirited performances, reinforcing the message of unity and support within the gospel music fraternity.
The highlight of the night was, of course, Dorcas Moyo herself.
Dressed elegantly and exuding calm confidence, she delivered songs from “Mugeri Tsvatu” with power and conviction.

The new album features standout tracks such as “Kazevezeve”, “Denga Rina Mwari”, “Wodalitsika” (featuring Malawian gospel icon, Dr Ethel Kamwendo Banda), “Messiah Ndichamuwona” (featuring Nobert Mukombe and Pastor Vhengere), and “Mubatsiri Wangu” (with Pastor Tinashe Murigo).
Each song carried a message of hope, faith, and perseverance, resonating with the diverse crowd that came from across the country to witness this special moment.
As the night drew to a close, veteran musician, Hosiah Chipanga, stepped in to wrap things up with an electrifying performance.
His rendition of “Vatsigiri Vangu” had fans singing along passionately, ending the night on a high note.
