The countdown has begun for Africa’s number one epic race, the Victoria Falls Econet Marathon, with the highlight being the live shutdown musical concert on Sunday night.

A star-studded line-up featuring Jah Prayzah, Winky D, Feli Nandi, Nutty O, Tocky Vibes and DJs King Her and Chiweddar has been announced.

The gala will be held at Baobab Primary School, the marathon’s permanent venue for the next decade since last year. It will start at 6pm and continue till late, with free admission.

The gig will be an all-Zimbabwe affair and it promises to be a perfect cool down for thousands of local and international athletes registered for the 42km marathon, 21,5km half marathon, fun run events and multitudes of fun lovers who usually travel to witness the race.

The musical concert is one of many initiatives aimed at bringing the marathon closer to the community. The organisers continue to roll out various corporate social responsibility initiatives across different sectors.

A news crew observed that preparations are underway at the venue. The stage for the musical gala is being set up and frames for the starting and finishing points have been erected, with branding in progress. The weather is expected to be favourable for the all-nighters at the gala, as temperatures in Victoria Falls have been gradually warming up lately.

However, the absence of Victoria Falls-based artistes or any other artistes from the host province has raised concerns within the arts industry. In response, the organisers have said they are revising the line-up.

“They are finalising a list of other Victoria Falls-based artistes to feature at the musical gala,” said a source close to the organisers. As of yesterday, Econet Zimbabwe, the organisers, had not yet responded to questions sent to them.
