THE Zhombe community has been hit by hunger and starvation, as there is little hope for a good yield next year.
Chief Gwesela of Zhombe said the situation was so bad and he was inundated with villagers knocking on his door asking for food.
“People are starving here and the Department of Social Welfare did not do justice, as it only registered a few people for relief.
“As traditional leaders, we are bearing the brunt of drought because people always come to the Chief’s residence asking for food and as their leader, I cannot turn them away and leave them to starve. I have to do something as their father.
“Last year, people did not get much from their fields it seems nothing will change next year. I now have to make sure that I share the little I have with my people, even if it means I must give them from proceeds of my hustle,” said Chief Gwesela.
“In trying to avoid another drought, we have conducted a traditional and Christian rain making ceremony to accommodate everyone,” he said.
