WHAT should have been a simple Saturday afternoon braai ended in bloodshed and heartbreak in Zhombe, after a man was stabbed to death over a piece of grilled meat.
The incident occurred at Hove Business Centre where Paul Herbert, whose age was not yet confirmed at the time of writing, was enjoying a casual braai session. Witnesses say Paul was grilling meat on a public braai stand when tragedy struck.
According to police reports, Paul accidentally dropped a piece of meat that belonged to Tinashe Mazanhi, another patron at the braai spot. Instead of simply brushing off the accident or asking for a replacement, Mazanhi allegedly flew into a rage.
Without uttering a word, Mazanhi is said to have pulled out an Okapi knife from his bag and stabbed Paul once in the chest. Witnesses were left horrified as Paul collapsed, bleeding heavily. He was rushed to a local clinic, but sadly, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Midlands Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the chilling incident and said Mazanhi is now a wanted man.
“We are looking for Tinashe Mazanhi, who is accused of stabbing Paul Herbert to death,” said Insp Mahoko. “It is believed the altercation started after Herbert accidentally dropped Mazanhi’s meat while grilling. We urge members of the public who may know of Mazanhi’s whereabouts to report him to the nearest police station.”
Inspector Mahoko also took the opportunity to remind citizens that violence is never the answer in resolving disputes.
“People must learn to settle disagreements peacefully. Resorting to knives and violence only leads to more pain and unnecessary loss of life,” he said.
As the hunt for Mazanhi continues, a community is left stunned, and a family is now mourning a life lost over a simple piece of meat.
