A MONSTER stepfather from Mazowe has been jailed for 60 years after repeatedly raping his eight-year-old stepdaughter, proving that justice can be served when victims of sexual violence speak out.
The 36-year-old was convicted by the Bindura Regional Court on four counts of rape that took place between August and September this year at a farm where the child lived under his care.
The predator used brutal threats to keep the little girl quiet. He menaced her with an axe, held pliers to her mouth, and later brandished a knife to scare her into silence. After the fourth assault, he fled after threatening to kill the victim and her mother.
But the child’s courage turned the tide. She confided in a 15-year-old friend during a visit to her biological father’s home. The friend told her mother, and together they accompanied the young survivor to the police to make a report.
The case was swiftly handled, and the Bindura court handed the abuser a 60-year jail term, sending a strong warning to predators who target vulnerable children.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) applauded the brave survivor and urged families to be alert to signs of abuse.
“The systematic violation of a child by someone in a position of trust is unacceptable. We commend the victim’s bravery for coming forward. Her voice brought justice,” the NPAZ said.
This case shows that silence only protects the abuser, not the victim. Survivors of sexual violence are encouraged to speak up, seek help, and trust the justice system to act.
Break the silence. Speak out. Justice will follow.
