CRICKET icon Dale Steyn has stunned fans by showing love for the Chevrons even as they lock horns with his own South African side in the first Test at Queens Sports Club.
The former Proteas pacer took to social media to rally behind Zimbabwe, calling them his “second love” and saying a strong Chevrons team is crucial for the global game.
“It’s no secret my second love in cricket is Zimbabwe,” wrote Steyn. “Obviously I want the Proteas to win, but I feel a good competitive Zimbabwe, West Indies, etc is so good for world cricket. So just for a moment, GO ZIM! But also, to the team, PROTEAS.”
Steyn’s comments come as the match enters day two, with South Africa having declared on a massive 418/9. Zimbabwe’s reply got off to a nightmare start, losing two quick wickets in the first five overs.
Veteran batters Craig Ervine and Sean Williams are now at the crease, trying to steady the ship and live up to Steyn’s supportive words.
Can Zimbabwe fight back and make it a contest worthy of the legendary pacer’s praise? Or will the Proteas crush their hopes? Stay tuned!
